We are pleased to welcome Jamesia Henderson to the lab as a new PhD student in the Genomic Medicine Graduate Program at Augusta University. Jamesia earned her B.S. in Health Science and her M.S. in Agricultural Sciences with a concentration in Entomology from Florida A&M University. She also served as a Research Fellow with the Entomological Society of America at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria. We are excited to have her join the lab and look forward to her contributions to our research program.

Big congratulations to Erin Pryzwara and JT Wicker III for earning Best Presentation awards at the recent URFA Conference. Erin received a Best Presentation award for her talk, “Temporal Prevalence of kdr in Aedes albopictus, South Richmond County,” and JT was recognized for his presentation, “Sugar Protection of Myoglobin Secondary Structure Following Protein Denaturation.”
We will not hold it against JT that his award-winning presentation came from work in another lab — especially since he also presented research from the Baltzegar Lab at the conference. Everyone did an outstanding job, and I am incredibly proud of all of our students for representing the lab so well.

Members of the Baltzegar Lab recently presented their research at the College of Science and Mathematics Research Day 2026. Lab members shared projects spanning insecticide resistance in mosquitoes to glucose aversion in cockroaches, highlighting the diverse research efforts taking place within the group.
We are proud of all of our students for their hard work, professionalism, and enthusiasm in communicating their science and representing the lab at this year’s research symposium.
