Hey! My name is JT Wicker, and I have been a student researcher with Dr. Baltzegar for the past two years. During my time in the Baltzegar Lab, my research has focused on studying the genes associated with insecticide resistance in Aedes albopictus, a mosquito commonly found throughout the CSRA.
I am currently a junior at Augusta University studying Cell and Molecular Biology, with aspirations of attending the Medical College of Georgia and eventually becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon. My interest in cardiology began about two years ago when I started working as a cardiac technician at Doctors Hospital of Augusta.
Despite balancing school, research, and work, I always find time for the things I enjoy outside of the lab. One of my biggest hobbies is pickleball. I play, teach, and coach, and I travel to compete in advanced tournaments just below the professional level, with hopes of making the jump to the pro level soon!
My time in Dr. Baltzegar’s lab has provided me with invaluable opportunities to grow as both a student and researcher, and I’m excited to see where these experiences take me next!
